The 8-17 Rockets are hoping to leave a nightmare through the first 30% of the season behind them. There have been reports of grumbling in the locker room all season, before and after the multitude of trades. The straw that broke the camel's back: a 67-94 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. The top blew off after an embarrassing loss in which ZERO Rockets managed to shoot 50% from the field. The Rockets scored just 10 points in the 4th quarter, and in an apparent protest, started taking 24-second violations for the final 3 minutes of this game.
Rumors of the Rockets' front office growing tired of Ward's combative personality combined with terrible on-court results sparked a few discussions about Ward's seat getting warm. But those closest to the team insisted that the Rockets front office had every intention of letting him and the team work out their struggles until the end of their next major road trip, ending December 20th @ Utah.
But given the events of December 6th in Milwaukee, and the outspoken criticism from vets Zaccheus Darko-Kelly and newcomer Aaron Epps accelerated this timeline, cutting short likely the quickest tenure of any head coach in league history. The head coach position in Houston the last few years has been a rocky one, with Ward being the replacement for the disgraced Chauncey Billups, whose trial for illegal gambling and insider trading carries on.
Enter Kevin Garnett: The Head Coach of the reigning CSL Champion Sacramento Kings. The Rockets had discussions with Garnett in the offseason, but Garnett had insisted on taking some time off. Garnett will bring in some different philosophies that likely fit this newly frontcourt-heavy Rockets roster.
The Rockets' news broke last night as the team was going through customs entering Canada for their lone visit to the 4-22 Raptors' home court. At this time, it is believed that assistant Arthur Morgan will call the shots for tonights game as Garnett is currently in Houston prepping a game plan, and will meet the team for the first time tomorrow.
The main question we expect from the reader: "How bad was the situation in Houston that Kevin Garnett is seen as the calm, even-keeled option in comparison?" In unrelated news, all 15 Rockets players were reportedly observed clubbing in Toronto at 3 AM and celebrating something. The ever-generous Ashton Hagans dished out shots to an entire bar. We can only guess what this was about.
For the newbies: the title alludes to Dirk Nowitzki being a long time head coach for us
Also something else I just realized: All 3 Texas teams are now coached by some of the best power forwards ever. Spurs and Mavs both have their franchise GOATs coaching them in Duncan and Dirk.
The game wouldn't let me afford him to bring him back but loved Garnett as a coach.
Unfortunately right now a lot of my players are having issues (some big) with new coach Parmer so I might have to look at moving him on soon but cash going to be tight.
