Expectation/Goals Discussion

Post by NCAA Simmer »

Here's your Goals/Expectations thread for the season

This is not mandatory, Just fun to look back at what everyone expected as we have all rookie coaches

Example
We expect to win quite a bit this season we have a great team, We are ready to rally around our Star PG Bucky Chapman (Junior) who plays like the second coming of Bryce Cotton! Ricardo McMillian has made huge stride in the offseason and we expecting a huge Sophmore jump.

Drexel Dragons

While the roster has a good mix of youth and upperclassmen, the problem is most of the youth is found at the guard positions while our big men are almost exclusively upperclassmen. This has pushed Coach Rizzo into the decision to run an almost exclusive three-guard lineup. Small ball will be on the docket as much as possible. Drexel will be looking to get up and down, playing fast on offense and forcing the opposing offense to play faster than it is comfortable playing. Adding not only athletes to the roster but ones that understand how to play legitimate defense is the ultimate goal. Coach Rizzo excels at coaching offense so development on that side of the ball will come once they reach campus.

Season Goals:
  • finish top-3 in conference in regular season
  • avoid a 50-point loss @ Kentucky
  • beat Coach Rizzo's hometown school Northeastern
  • win the CAA conference tournament
  • finish ranked in the top-100
  • have a recruiting class in the top-75
  • win CAA Coach of the Year
Career Accolades:
- GM, Cleveland Cavaliers [2013-2018]
- GM, Brooklyn Nets [2018-2030, 2031-Present]
- 0 CSL Championships
- 0 Eastern Conference Championships
- 0 Coach of the Year Awards
- 0 GM of the Year Awards

Rizzo's Hall of Fame Players:
- oCSL Marcus Smart
- SG P.J. Hairston [2015 CSL Draft, Pick 1.16]
- C DeAndre Ayton [2022 CSL Draft, Pick 1.3]
- PG Shai-Gilgeous Alexander [2025 CSL Draft, Pick 1.1]

UMass Minutemen

Their are high hopes for the Minutemen this year, After going (17-15)(10-8 Conference play) They fired Coach Derek Kellogg and brought in rookie head coach Matthew Briand.. Going into the season it looks like there will be a battle of the backcourt with 4 players vying for the Starting PG role. Kory Robertson, Chris Hicks, Robert Yearwood, Marcus Johnson. Even with Marcus starting last year it looks like Hicks has a head start on the group after bulking up. Also rumors are swirling around that Coach Briand will be moving Small Forward Alex Daniels to the PF and Star PF Julius Valentine to the CENTER position. Practice starts later this week so it should be interesting seeing the Minutemen gear up for a matchup against #1 team in the Nation in UCONN
Season Goals:
  • Finish top-3 in conference standings
  • Win 18 games
  • Beat Marquette
  • Beat St Josephs once
  • Win 2 games in the A10 conference tournament
  • Qualify and win a NIT Tournament game
  • finish ranked in the top-45
  • Have a top 20 recruiting class
  • Have 1 All conference player
  • Have no players under 2.4GPA

Marquette is set to have a long and likely disappointing season for a team with such a high pedigree. Although there is some solid talent in the squad, there is very little depth and few obvious scorers. Defensively, the team will be competitive and should hold its own on the boards. Expectations are modest at best.

Goals:
  • Finish above .500. A fairly easy home schedule should help.
  • Finish in the top half of the conference.
  • Win a conference tournament game.
  • Don't lose more than five home games.
  • Don't lost to DePaul.
  • Develop one of the underclassmen on the bench into a starter.

We have the second lowest prestige in the conference, so we aren't really seen too favorably in our already pretty crappy conference. With our limited talent, we are hoping to just tread water this season and find some promising young talent to move forward with.

Goals from the Board
1. Don't finish last in the conference
2. Win 10+ games

Personal Goals
1. Have a player on the all-conference teams
2. Finish above .500
3. Increase school prestige

Nebraska University Season Goals

I'm pretty disappointed with the talent available at Nebraska this year, so I'm not sure how easy it will be to reach the goals of the board. In a very tough conference it will be difficult to win on the road, and looking at the schedule I find it hard to pick out more than 5 or 6 wins. So we will see how it goes.

Board goals
Qualify for NIT Tournament
Finish season above .500
Finish in top half of conference
Improve Prestige

Personal Goals
Have a winning record at home
Improve prestige
Finish ahead of at least 4 teams in conference

Star Players
Kerry Drexler- the senior point guard from Lincoln, NE, will be my main scorer and also should get plenty assists against the weaker teams. He is also a strong defender and can rebound well at 6'4. Will be tough to replace at the end of the year.
Ryan Trombley- the freshman small forward from Omaha, NE, will likely play a big part this season as expectations are he will progress into a team leader. His defensive ability and ball handling stand out, as does his outside shooting. He may not score enough this season, but game time will help his progression.
