.So, where does this whole project stand?
Our championship season feels ages ago, and we made slowly but surely a lot of small steps back. The first season after the title, Perry went out for the year and it was easy to point out that it was the main reason, we could not compete with the Nets in the Eastern finals. Then last year ended in round 2 in a matchup with the way better 76ers.
This year after a surprisingly hot start for us (standing wise), we are falling back to where we belong, if you look deeper at the advanced stats so far.
One way could be to let it run a little longer and angle for this one mid-season trade to turn the tide. And then hope for the best in the playoffs.
But I’m bored and also annoyed that the team is just not playing up to their talent level. Or maybe I just overrate them greatly, as usual.
Anyway, I decided to just scratch the owner's goal of a deep playoff run and write this season off. Have some fun trying out lineups and strats again. I really miss that part of the rebuild.
With our 1st in possession, there is a safety net in place and who knows, maybe we can find some new thing for this roster.
We will test the trade market in search of better fits. And if the right offer for our core players should emerge, I’m open to even starting a new rebuild.
Goal #1 though, is to find a setup around Naji (who has a uncharacteristically slow start this season), Keegan and Reggie.
It will be a challenge to get this gang to play some D. Everybody seems to be in love with outscoring the opponent at all cost. And the past 2 years showed us, that is not the way.
Stay tuned, I hope it gets at least interesting.
