Free Agency

Hi All,

Due to the engine upgrade, we wanted to reach out to the league to get everyone's thoughts on Free Agency for this upcoming year (and future years).

The past 2 years, we moved to a system that was away from the game for most of the Free Agents. It is a modified Player Agent system for anyone who hasn't been a part of it yet and has had both Positive (no game signing bugs) and Negative (price driving) feedback from the league.

With that said we wanted to present the option of moving back to the game to manage Free Agency again. The only caveat is that we don't know how DDS19 manages free agency to this point, although I have been through it in another league and it is pretty similar to DDS3.

We will present the two options below:

Hybrid Player Agent System
PROS
- If you have 11 million in CAP you can offer that to as many players as you want at any given time.
- We can stick to our current financial figures
- Adds some realism and human interaction to the FA system

CONs
- Can lead to price driving of FA
- Human factor is required on some of the closer decisions
- Formula outside of the game is used

DDS System
PROs
- No human factor to decisions (whatever the game decides happens)
- Stick to the game driven formula

CONs
- Whatever the game decides happens
- Must adhere to the DDS finances/limitations
- Cannot offer your available CAP to multiple players

Please take the time to vote and discuss your reasoning why below.

Thanks

-The Admin Team

I really enjoyed the hybrid player-agent system we used last season. Price driving is something you'd expect in a "free" market. If a team is able to pay more for the same commodity, than they should be allowed to do that. Their repercussions are that they are now paying a player an overpaid contract. Like if Mohamed Bamba got the full 4 year max, it's not necessarily a bad thing. He's just being paid extra. You gotta deal with that problem now. It was also exciting as contracts and offers were updated in real time, meaning we could see our potential competitors fairly quickly.

Otherwise, I'm interested in the proposals that Kyrus brought up earlier in the year. With the new engine, our current contract restrictions are no longer a necessity, as the engine doesn't have the same problems. If that's the case, why not introduce those contracts(Flat contracts above $8M, Front loaded contracts, and 1+1 deals with Team Options) back into the system

I agree... I believe I remember hearing in the past that the front loaded contracts are not feasible, but I would be a big fan of Flat Contract & 1+1

Hybrid 100%

In game free agency was terrible in 3. I doubt it's changed much. The last few free agencies were great. Lots of fun, and they allow us to have our own rules that work better. The end result has worked out better for everyone.

Also, depending on this decision it will allow us to dive deeper into the proposals by Kyrus (I don't want you to think we forgot about you).

all good, I bumped that other thread not knowing there was a debate about using our league's system vs the game.

Hybrid for sure. Some tweaks may need to be made, but overall it was good last season. We might need some sort of Indy rule though ;)

Honestly, I trust no one's judgement. I can't put Zions future in another person's hands. The game is what we are playing. We use the game 98% of the time, why change it?!

Even though no process or manual formula will be perfect, I guess hybrid is better than the game purely because there are a lot of house rules that have to implemented which nearly makes it more work than hybrid anyway.

I do like that the game can be ruthless with its decisions though. Offer unders and the game will just throw that offer out. Offer to a player that has zero interest in the team and the offer will just get thrown out. No chance that player is playing for that team, etc. The game will force QO's, etc. Hybrid is a bit soft in this regard and I get it, it's the human element and you don't want to be a prick/teams will complain that a human has made the decision that the player doesn't want your team but it is a good thing about the in-game system.

Like you'd love to see a team get smart and offer well under for an RFA and that RFA to get pissed off, tell them to get stuffed and sign the QO haha. Hard for a human to be that rough though I guess and would require the human to determine what he thinks a player is worth.

Also don't completely like the multiple offers thing because it's a GM's nature to just hoard assets even if they don't actually want the player. They know anything can be flipped so may as well just make offers to anything and everything. We need a multiple offer system but maybe a tweak on the current system.

What I am confused about, I thought we only changed the system because teams cheated and looked at offers before, plus simmed days ahead.

That can not happen anymore, so why not go back to the game?!

Yeah that's the problem. Even though we love the human aspect of deciding the fair decision, there is also the human aspect of collecting and offering 10+ deals and hoping one lands. Then trading the player

Not gonna lie. I've been here since I've been 23 years old. I'm about to turn 30.
Every year we have compliments regarding free agency. That will never change...
But I've seen more complaining with free agent team deciding, vs. the computer.

The reason for me to go with the Hybrid system, is the entertainment factor. I liked that much more than in game. I'm in other leagues where they use the in game FA and its boring to me, compared to the last 2 CSL off-season.

The easier way of course would choose the game and just roll thru it.
I agree with Ryan that the Hybrid can be a bit "soft" sometimes. But in a human sim league it is probably for the better.

While my time is super limited and think it would be easier for me to use the DDS19 free agency system, I voted for hybrid as it adds so much more to the league overall and the entire off season.
