So the only defensive consideration is blocks and steals I guess? Does it use any advanced stats or just pure box score?hardenwithnod wrote:Cleasby wrote:Interesting metric. Is this just a rating based on box score stats? Seems like offence is valued very heavily. By that I mean scoring.
It's based on ratings, and stats. Defensive metrics aren't used though.
Does it take into account league averages as a base marker?
Sorry for all the qs as an analytics guy I am interested in how you validate the scoring.

It's a system that is based mostly on ratings (70% I think) with some on actual production (30% I believe). The only defensive production taken into account are steals and blocks. PA/SF, TOs forced, STP% are not taken into account. It's hard to come up with a perfect formula, but Chili does a pretty decent job. It's a nice tool to see how players stack up, but I wouldn't solely use it to assess player value. According to this formula, my team looks like it should be maybe slightly above average (#7 PG, <#13 SG, #11 SF, #9 PF, #7 C). But that's mainly because my team's bread and butter is defense.Cleasby wrote:So the only defensive consideration is blocks and steals I guess?
