RAPTOR++ / 1st month 2016/2017 CSL Season
For those who don’t know RAPTOR++, it is a tool that combine the ratings of each player (70%) and his efficiency in game (30%). Their capacities are weighted in order to value good rebounding for bigs for example.
The % in game is also considered in the ratings which probably change the balance from 70/30 to 60/40.
The tool premiere objective is to evaluate players value when it comes to trade or free agency. It has it flaws with defensive aspects not taken into consideration (%STP, PA/SF)
However, I believe it bring a good overview in general and was well received last year by the league.
I decided not to include team record since I like to compare the players over the years.

Kemba is an absolute animal this season. No question he's been the top PG this year.

Wow, what a great list this season. James Young is easily the one that surprised me the most however. One thing that I find strange is, where are the rookie stats? Is the rookie of the year going to average 9ppg? Lol

Great stuff as usual. Kyrie Irving has been playing almost exclusively at the SG position which would put him as the #2 SG in the league, right where we would expect him to be.

Kemba and Dragic as well but as discussed last year, I keep the position defined in the roster since it can be tricky sometimes to determine the real positionRizzo wrote:Great stuff as usual. Rookie class looks pretty weak this season...When you compare to year one where currently 21 players drafted that year are over 10pts a game, even moreRizzo wrote:Great stuff as usual. Wow - with the exception of Davis (who leads this list!) no other NOP starter graced any of the other positional lists.... but we got our two rookies into the top 5!!!!
Wasn't expecting that - huge nod to Wesley Saunders and his game - he may be joining the starters soon.....
Interested Chili, where did DeAndre rank? I know that offensive efficiency is a big part of this, and he's been pretty good for us.

Love those Raptor ++ ratings
Surprised, however, to see Dragic at 9. Comparing to Curry who is at 8 the only nag against Dragic is that he plays more minutes - is that why he slipped despite higher efficiency and production than a few others in top 10?

Re: RAPTOR++ / 1st month 2016/2017 CSL Season
Love this article been waiting all month for it!
As well as Kemba is playing I still underestimated him predicting Russell Westbrook would be the #1 PG in the League (also thought Kemba would be on the SG list). Wall behind Bledsoe surprised me as well.
Dwight has been tremendous this yr in the vaunted Single Post Offense and I have been keeping an eye on Kevin Love who is having a great season as well so props to those gm's for getting the most of their guys!
Anthony Davis is on an entirely other level this year as I think he raised his ++ Eval Rating.
Last but not least Paul George is amazing... did not expect this production last season but studied ratings enough to engineer a team to get the utmost out of his player ratings and he has been magnificent.
Lots of talent League-wide with new faces joining the list!

Nice to see Dwight leading all centers and I really dig the emphasis on defense. EVAL formula is dope and I was looking forward to this article as well.

Re: RAPTOR++ / 1st month 2016/2017 CSL Season
Fun article as always. Not surprising to see SG is by far the weakest position, since a lot of starting SGs are technically labeled as PGs.
Happy to see Bledsoe in the top 5, as he's carrying my team (when he's been healthy). His raw numbers would actually be higher if it wasn't skewed by a game in which he played 1 minute thanks to an injury, but that doesn't effect his EVAL rating since it's based on minutes. I'm also happy to see Austin make it for the PF position. He's having a breakout year for us and his rating appears to reflect it.
This certainly isn't meant to be overly critical or whatnot, but I respectfully disagree that this article should be used to evaluate a player's value come trade or whatnot. It's skewed towards offensive players since it doesn't take into account PA/SF or stop %, as Chili admits. It's also a system that rewards players that play in a higher paced offense, since the faster pace means there will be more possessions on a per minute basis, and thus more pts, assists, rebs, blks, stls, etc. And that's not to mention that the system rewards a player's usage %, so a good player on a terrible team will look significantly better than an identical player on a good team because he'll get the ball a lot more.
This system certainly has value, but a lot of things need to be considered when someone comes to you with a trade offer.

Not shocked at all to see KD at the top of the Small Forwards. The poor guy has to do it all, surprised we don't ask him to sweep the floor before and after the games...

Dragic is playing quite a lot but still really efficient (94). Curry (93) has better ratings at PG position (Ovr 84 vs 81)

This system certainly has value, but a lot of things need to be considered when someone comes to you with a trade offer.
The grade you see is the overall ratings grade combined with the efficiency in game. I have also other indicators like the PG rating, the PF/C rating...
Bryce Cotton for example would be the best on the market at PG (Young, efficient 82, good rating 82, best PG ratings 345...) despite being #15 of the ranking right now
After I agree the statistics are improved with the path but again it represents 30% of the final note.
