The last move in a frenzy

Post by TheTwoWallaces »

Starting their offseason hot, the Pacers have already agreed to moves that send out DeRozan, Love, and Jennings.

As they previously stated, their last big move will be sending local favorite Oladipo to a new home. Despite his elite D, the Indiana GM is more interested in acquiring shooters or a point guard for his services. A shot blocking presence down low would also be a welcome addition. With rumors that Mudiay is coming to Indy, pressure to move the Hoosier is escalating.

In the meantime, Indiana is looking forward to gauging interest on its new draft position and building out its core around Winslow Ojeleye and Mudiay. Though as in any organization that is in transition, no one is completely safe from the trade block. Strange times in Pacerland.

Core of mudiay, Winslow and ojeleye. Tim should be happy. Indiana became a surefire bottom three team the last few days.

Nice to see the new GM being active and making some moves to turn the franchise around. I think you will find a buyer for Oladipo if not in the offseason than in season as he is still a very valuable guy to have around.

Agreed to Oladipo and also the moves to shape the team how you see it.

Also if there is no good deal now having Oladipo in the starting lineup with the 3 youngsters and maybe a young center could help over the first growing pains. Its a rebuild, no one expect playoffs just yet.

Yeah, there will be a market do Oladipo for sure, I would definitely keep shopping him around, especially if teams strike out in the free agency.

This. Good point by Gary. I wouldnt rush into anything. Picks for example have their highest value during the draft, players with bigger contracts become more attractive after teams striked out on FA in freeagency etc.
See it like stocks that go up and down.

Have done so, as that “core” doesn’t include the #6 or returns from Dipo. Veteran GMs have helped though and I’ll be doing my best to keep Indy outta the lottery next year

No idea for sure what any of the moves are that you've made but, based on speculation, I'm very worried about this team already. Have a feeling you've been sold a bill of goods already.

Looks like you took the bait on Mudiay and he belongs in nobodies core.

A lot of moves from a new GM that could have a domino effect if any get denied. Doubt they will bc we're typically cool with people coming in new, destroying a team and leaving.

Love the activity and early commitment.

I actually have no problem with Dipo staying put in Indy. Move wisely, if you ever trade him, better be for a good package. Keep the defensive level high in Pacerland, this is probably your best calling card for next season. Also, finding a good shooter / scorer should do wonders.
I'm not saying we're trading for him or anything cause I'm definitely keeping him for next season, but a player like Dame (or Kyrie, similar scoring guards who can shoot and create for others) playing the point for your team would look fantastic. Mudiay would move into a bench role. A team of Lillard (Kyrie), Dipo, Winslow, Semi and a shot blocker with Mudiay off the bench would look fantastic and playoff bound.

Well, fairly difficult to get a player like Kyrie or Lillard with very limited assets.

#6 isn't a bad asset to start. Not saying that nets you a Kyrie type of guy but hey, it's a good start if you want a real asset there. You can even trade down and select Okobo, even though he's not as good as Kyrie or Lillard, he's a player in Lillard's moulds. He can't pass like Dame, but when you have Semi, Winslow and Mudiay, you don't really need a fantastic passer, just someone to shoot well from deep and score the basket when team needs a bucket.

Dipo is a beast, if you want to trade him you better get a premium price because defense is traded at a premium around here.

Don't listen to some of the curmudgeons around the league who are going to bah humbug at all your trades. You're going to make bad trades, it's part of the game, and everyone gets torn apart, vet or rookie alike. Make the deals you think are right for your team and learn from it if you make a mistake. I got my ass handed to me when I first joined sim leagues forever ago, now I've been around for a while and I still get my ass handed to me on the regular. Just how it goes around here.

Just stay the course and don't be afraid to make a trade. You seem to be doing the right things and reaching out to GMs for advice which is all I can ask for out of a new GM. Its the new GMs who think they can do it on their own who end up making really bad moves.

Keep it up man!

Thanks for the support! I’m basically seeing it in 2 stages of learning/trading: get as much value as I can back for these older guys while there’s still time, then get a better understanding of ratings/advanced analytics and work to build the right mix of guys. Right now I finished the 3 deals that I thought were urgent and necessary and now I’m trying to read up A bit on what types of guys a team needs to succeed.

And Who knows, maybe Mudiay isn’t the guy, but it would also be fun to prove all his naysayers wrong
