Brian Schmitz: Orlando acquires swingman Justin Anderson in 3 team deal.

The Magic traded PG Brandon Knight who had played wonderfully for them during his short stint in Orlando to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for GF Justin Anderson, a former #2 overall Pick who had been mired on the bench of the CSL Champion Phoenix Suns in a deal that saw Orlando re-route F Rudy Gay and New Orleans '24 1st Rd Pick to Phoenix.

"It's a blessing ya know, I feel like this is a young talented team and I fit right in with the culture and I expect to contribute at a high level", said Anderson. "I was made aware the GM was after me for awhile and he has alot of faith in me and I think I'll be able to reach those expectations here... we're gonna be a fun and exciting team to watch and hopefully the fans will come out and support us because we promise to entertain y'all!"

Looking to make a run for the division title, the trade could not have come at a better time during this early part of the season as the Magic face off against Utah tonight at 7:30P, coverage begins at 7P.

I'm definitely an Anderson fan and wanted him in Detroit as our glue guy at SF who wont take many shots, but plays good M2M defense. If he could force turnovers, he would be a great glue guy. I still think you need a true PG, but your signature is slowly turning into an all 76ers crew.

Treat Anderson good. If he didn't cost so much, I'd take him back in a heartbeat.

I've always been a fan of Anderson's game but like Jon said his lack of creating turnovers keeps him from being that much better.

Anderson is a very, very solid three and D wing. He should fit in well for you I.

So turnover creation is now the standard for a great defender? Just asking, as long as he can stop or limit people I'm good with it.

Glad to have him!

I think when talking “great” defenders, yes they should be able to create turnovers. It’s great to be able to have a high STP% and a low PA/SF but she players create turnovers that basically gives your team free points down the other end.

I mean, he does average a steal and block per game.

His only weakness is being inconsistent and turning the ball over himself. If you can fix that, he should be great for you

Yeah, to be an "elite" defender, you probably need to be great at everything (DSR, TO generation, low PA/SF, etc.). But Anderson is a very good defender. He stops 95% of drives, should average a steal and block if given starting minutes and plays great man-defense. He also shoots the ball very well. When I think of 3&D guy, I think of someone like Anderson.

That's true, didn't think about easy fast break baskets from turnovers.

And yeah Andrew he's getting a steal and block and putting up a 3 game so I'm very excited to have him... played well against Utah but that was at home.

Good start in Orlando.
Was trying to get Anderson last season. I like him as a 3&D guy. His contract is the only thing which stings a little but for that reason he is getting shipped around :-)

I like Anderson a lot - definitly nice to add a solid starter to the rotation. He really doesn't hurt you in any way and only adds value
