San Antonio traveled to face the Timberwolves in Minnesota. They would face the new lineup that now saw the departure of Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. In their place were now Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka.
Serge doing his best flyswatter impersonation
When the game ended it was a lopsided win for the Timberwolves. The Wolves came out on top with a convincing 106 to 89 victory over the up to then, undefeated Spurs. The win was quite impressive, considering that Russell Westbrook only played a total of 9 minutes and had 0 points. Word out of Minnesota is that he has a sprained ankle and will miss 10 days.
What was even more impressive though was newly acquire Serge Ibaka's stat line...
30 points on 13 of 14 shooting as well as 4 of 4 from the free throw line.
13 rebounds, 4 of them on the offensive end
10 blocked shots...yes 10.
The power forward played a phenomenal game on both ends of the floor in helping his team secure the victory.
Coach Rick Adelman had this to say.
Serge Ibaka has played 3 games now with the Timberwolves and has had 5, 6 and now 10 blocks. 21 blocks over 3 games isn't a bad average at all. Some teams don't average 7 blocks per game, let alone another player. So make sure you are watching so you can...Rick Adelman,
"You know, when GM Rh0xxy approached me and told me he had just moved Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio to Minnesota I have to be honest and say I was really excited. I was going to have the chance to coach Kevin Durant, one of the most gifted offensive players I had seen in a long time. When he told me that we were bringing in Serge Ibaka and Russell Westbrook I was kind of shocked. Once Serge arrived here though, he quickly put my concerns to rest. That guy works harder than anyone I have seen before. He showed what kind of talent he is tonight against a strong Spurs team. A triple double from a young man who in my opinion could log many more of them this season.
See that!
When it happens next.
