2032 Season Awards - LEAGUE VOTED
Thanks to everyone for participating! 22 GM's voted this year.
*Note: 5 points given to a 1st place vote, 3 points given to a 2nd place vote, and 1 point given to a 3rd place vote. First place votes are in parentheses.
Additionally, only those selections who received a First Place vote (OR) at least 10 total points are displayed below.
MVP
Winner: Zion Williamson, DAL - 73 pts (13)
Runner Up: Luka Doncic, NY - 48 pts (5)
3rd place: DeAndre Ayton - 25 pts (0)
Others receiving first place votes or at least 10 total points: Ben Simmons, MIN - 18 (0), Davion Mitchell, PHI - 10 (2), Shai Gilgeous Alexander, BKN - 5 (1), Dennis Smith, MIA - 5 (1)
Notes: After DeAndre Ayton ran away with the MVP last season, we see 26 year old Zion Williamson win in similar fashion. Zion led the Mavs to a 54-28 record, and saw his production explode from last season with an increase by 7 ppg despite playing fewer minutes. A PER of nearly 47, Zion had a season for the ages. The Top 3 remained the same from last season, but things got shifted around as Luka finished second and Ayton fell to third.
DPoY
Winner: DeAndre Ayton, BKN - 51 pts (8)
Runner Up: Davion MItchell, PHI - 33 pts (5)
3rd place: Rui Hachimura, CHA - 30 pts (5)
Others receiving first place votes or at least 10 total points: Daniel Gafford, MIL - 11 (1), Bruno Fernando, MEM - 11 (1), Jalen Suggs , IND - 6 (1), Jose Alvarado, WAS - 6 (1)
Notes: Alright... this man is on another level defensively. This is the 4th consecutive season Ayton has taken home the DPOY hardware. I thought we might see his reign end this season as his bpg and spg fell a combined 0.8 points from last season, but he still did enough in GMs eyes to earn the award. We see a newer face to the list in Davion Mitchell, who is going to try to dethrown the big men from winning this award every season. Rui continues to find himself on this list, just in time for his big free agency.
Rookie of the Year
Winner: Kofi Cockburn, SAC - 99 pts (19)
Runner Up: Aaron Epps, DEN - 46 pts (1)
3rd place: Yago Dos Santos, CHI - 13 pts (0)
Others receiving first place votes or at least 10 total points: Bilal Coulibaly, CHI - 8 (1), Victor Wembanyama, NOP - 6 (1)
Notes: No surprises here (minus Coulibaly and Wemby getting 1st place votes...)! The 3rd overall pick for the Kings was the team leading scorer with 19.0 ppg and 8.4 rpg leading the Kings to a 49-33 season. The older Epps was the clear 2nd place winner from Denver with his 15.9 ppg and 6.7 rpg; amazing value for the 19th overall pick. It looks like Cockburn has the Kings back in contention as bt starts to build a younger powerhouse.
Most Improved Player
Winner: Patrick Williams, MIA - 57 pts (8)
Runner Up: Nikola Jovic, CHA - 23 pts (3)
3rd place: Tyrese Haliburton, POR - 21 pts (2)
Others receiving first place votes or at least 10 total points: Naji Marshall, ATL - 14 (2), Immanual Quickley, OKC - 12 (0), Justinian Jessup, POR - 12 (1), Kostas Antetokounmpo, DEN - 10 (2), Tyrese Maxey, NOP - 8 (1), Josh Green, DAL - 8 (1), Alex Antetokounmpo, SAS - 6 (1), Moses Moody, UTA - 5 (1)
Notes: Usually one of the closer voting awards, this year it a bit more of a runaway win for Patrick Williams of the Miami Heat. The 23 year old got a change of scenery in the offseason and it did wonders for him, seeing his production explode. About +9 ppg, +4 rpg, +8 PER, and 2x efficiency from his previous 4 seasons. Tyrese Haliburton who won the award last season finished in 3rd place, which is a very impressive feat showing his continuous improvement year over year.
6th Man of the Year
Winner: Christ Koumadje, MIA - 49 pts (7)
Runner Up: Aaron Epps, DEN - 36 pts (6)
3rd place: Skal Labissiere, BOS - 33 pts (2)
Others receiving first place votes or at least 10 total points: Jonathan Kuminga, OKC - 23 (2), Viny Okouo, MIN - 17 (2), Dylan Windler, DEN - 11 (1), Nimrod Levi, GSW - 6 (1), Kevin Huerter, BKN - 6 (1)
Notes: The 7'4 big man who was acquired in the Ben Simmons trade proved his worth this season with 17.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg, and 2.3 bpg off the bench. Not that playoffs are included in voting, but if they were he was even more impressive off the bench where he averaged 22.1 ppg, 10.5 rpg, and 2.6 bpg in 15 games. Epps from Denver was the runner up to add to his impressive rookie resume.
GM of the Year
Winner: rh0xxy, PHI - 43 pts (8)
Runner Up: AlexS, MIN - 34 pts (6)
3rd place:KW, HOU - 15 pts (2)
Others receiving first place votes or at least 10 total points: Flaming Homer, ATL - 13 (1), bt, SAC - 11 (1), OneNole, DEN - 10 (0), Silogical, MIA - 10 (1), wms02a, DAL - 9 (1), TJ , IND - 8 (1), Rizzo, BKN - 5 (1)
Notes: It's very fitting to see the two top teams' GMs finish in the top 2 voting here. It probably could have gone either way, but the big moves rh0xxy made as well as his teams improvement to 56-26 propelled him to victory! Trading Maxey for Monk really took this team to the next level as the playoffs progressed. Alex made some big moves himself, acquiring Brandon Ingram from Milwaukee in the offseason.
Coach of the Year
Winner: Silogical, MIA - 38 pts (4)
Runner Up: rh0xxy, PHI - 24 pts (3)
3rd place:AlexS, MIN - 23 pts (3)
Others receiving first place votes or at least 10 total points: GreenBear, POR - 20 (3), blackice, TOR - 19 (2), mtgr1, MIL - 16 (3), bt, SAC - 12 (1), KW, HOU - 11 (0), Marcos_Beck, CHI - 9 (1), Flaming Homer, ATL - 5 (1), OneNole, DEN - 5 (1)
Notes: Silo takes another one! Despite trading some bigger names in the past, Silo continues to have the Heat in cruise control during the regular season with a 58-24 record. rh0xxy and AlexS finish 2-3 to add to the GMOTY bragging rights.
Congrats to all of the winners this year.
Thanks again to everyone for voting!

Congrats to the winners!
I think these ballots should become public so we can publicly shame the GMs that constantly vote for things like Dennis Smith for MVP and TJ for GMotY (multiple ballots this year).
We should at least be able to know who we're laughing at

Re: 2032 Season Awards - LEAGUE VOTED
The vote of the uneducated.
I could make a case for several (Jovic being 2nd in MIP is nuts)
Rui should have been the run away winner for DPOY. His PA/SF wasn't as good as a few others but still elite at .89 and was far and away number 1 with a net of 4.6 for steals/blocks. Towns arguably should have been 2nd as he was 3rd or 4th with a net of 3.7 and 3rd in the league with a PA/SF of .82. Could also make an argument for Gafford or Bol Bol who also wasn't voted on. Just too many lazy uneducated people in in this league.

Re: 2032 Season Awards - LEAGUE VOTED
Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who voted for Gafford and myself.
Answering Doug's question, it was me who voted for Dennis Smith. Best net rating on the best regular season team among those playing significant minutes. "Stars" have come and gone in Miami (Simmons, Kuzma and others) and the Heat remain as good as ever. The only constant through all those seasons is Smith. Impact goes beyond the numbers, and the way DDS has always worked, if you have a point guard able to defend and hit threes, then you have a big part of a winning team. For me the MVP award goes to the most impactful player on the best team (regular season awards).

Fair enough. Didn't mean to call you out (or have my comments be taken in a serious manner). If it's a genuine vote regardless of reasoning, no issues whatsoever. I just assumed it was a troll.mgtr81 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 6:10 pm Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who voted for Gafford and myself.

Congrats to all the winners.
Good to see Kofi get the win but credit where credit is due, Epps was pretty good. Imagine if that trade fell over Brett and I had Epps too haha.
I wouldn't have personally voted Smith anywhere near it but you can argue it from the reasoning so there's nothing wrong with that. The TJ votes though.. just don't put a ballot in as it skews results.
DPOY is a hard one. I feel like if you're active, good defensive players are most times matched up on marquee offensive players and they're obviously harder to stop and can lower results such as PA/SF. Not moving them around and they shut down weaker opposition easily and can inflate those stats. It's a tough one to vote on.

Re: 2032 Season Awards - LEAGUE VOTED
Those defensive stats looks a bit off at times, like I’ve seen guys with 40 defensive rating has a 0.85 PA/S, then elite defenders that gives up over 1.0.
Yeah, TJ’s votes are the dumb ones imo, but then again every year we have some odd votes lol.

That's why I'm more of a fan of the net rating on blocks/steals. Shows more of a true impact.bt wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 10:37 pm Congrats to all the winners.
