Warriors Preparing for Important Draft

Warriors Rebuild Starts With Draft

Image
Could Devonte Graham be a target in the draft?

Oakland, CA - Only four games left. As the CSL season comes to a close, the Warriors sit at 33-45 with four games remaining on the schedule. The team has been experimenting a bit down the stretch, but with PJ Dozier battling a sore leg, the white towel on the season has been thrown in. Dozier is expected to suit up for the final few games of the season, including the Warriors last home game against the Spurs on April 15th.

Everyone knows there is a ton of uncertainty regarding Golden State's roster. Most players are expiring, but it's been made known that the team is happy with the performances from Dozier and Ellenson down the stretch. Ellenson, 23, is in the final year of his rookie contract and the Warriors will have to re-sign him in order to maintain his services. It's possible a rival team could sign him, but the Warriors will be in control as he's a restricted free agent. With Dozier, and hopefully Ellenson as the only players truly in the future plans, the rookie draft will be an opportunity for the Warriors to find some more core pieces for their roster. The Warriors hold their own first round pick, as well as a first round pick from the Wizards. Additionally, they hold the Lakers second round draft pick which is essentially a late first rounder in their eyes. Here's how the picks are currently holding up for the lottery:
  • Warriors 1st Round Draft Pick: 10th or 11th
  • Wizards 1st Round Draft Pick: 12th, 13th, or 14th
  • Lakers 2nd Round Draft Pick: 31st or 32nd
As you can see, the Warriors likely won't be landing the likes of Zion Williamson or Luka Doncic. There's a lot of skeptism with the current draft class, but the Warriors scouts are out there putting the work in trying to find the players that will best fit their system. It's expected the Warriors will take a best player available approach considering their roster flexibility.

Having an almost empty canvas is a great way to start. There are a lot of question marks with this draft, so going BPA is definitely the best approach.

Yeah it’s always smart to go BPA and figure out the rest. I’m hoping you get a top pick to add to this roster.

I am curious to see how this draft will shape out, especially with so many new ratings from this new engine, and most of us have no idea the true "meta" in terms of ratings combination, so this will be a wild draft.
