Time to Roar! (Memphis Grizzlies Season Preview)

Post by Sharkn20 »

When the first off-season in the history of Sharkn20 in the incredible CSL started, it was a clear objective in mind, keep the core of the team, while adding players that can contribute right away and provide with more opportunities to that core.

After a couple of trades, which were widely criticised by the league's atmosphere, Sharkn20 started to seek advice from other veteran GMs in the league, and find where the true value for the Grizzlies's assets was. So far so good, Sharkn20 got better understanding of the engine and got few key pieces that could lead this team to the playoffs or to the rubbish container, there will not be middle point here.

Point Guards
Projected Starter
Tyler Ulis 5'8 / 152 --> Ulis spent a lot of time in the gym trying to add muscle to his small frame, and he did indeed, adding 10 pounds, Ulis was brought with one objective in mind, keep it simple, distribute the ball and don't cause turnovers when organising attacks.

Backups
Shane Larkin 5'11 / 181 --> Larkin also added some muscle during the off-season to improve his defense, Larkin is a 3 point specialist who will provide relief to Ulis and be more prominent in games when defense in the PG is more necessary. Shane however is more prone to turnovers and doesn't see the game as well.

Vasilije Micic 6'6 / 192 --> The last piece added to the puzzle during the off-season, Micic combines both handling and passing skills to the position, but he is not good from downtown and we will prefer him not shooting at all.

Shooting Guards
Projected Starter
Zach LaVine 6'6 / 200 --> LaVine is a terrific scorer who demands double teams in the perimeter all day long, otherwise he will make you pay, he is deadly in the perimeter and really good from middle distance too, Zach will open the field for the 2 bigs being able to work inside the paint. Zach however isn't really interested in defending, so we truly hope that in the last year before the transition to DDSPB19, he bring more to the team that lets go.

Backups
Troy Daniels 6'4 / 205 --> Daniels was brought for one reason, and one reason only, downtown shots, Daniels can really light up the scoreboard when he is hot, and he will be working back-ups SG to try to contribute 10+ points per game from the bench, he is not good at anything else, so I truly hope he is the 3 point killer that I think he is.

Small Forwards
Projected Starter
Khris Middleton 6’8 / 215 --> Middleton is one of the cornerstones of this franchise. Is like a Swiss-Knife player with the offensive effectiveness, defensive ability, speed and he knows how to play basketball. Middleton will draw attention freeing up LaVine or using double coverages in him to shoot from deep and destroy opposing defences.

Backups
Bogdan Bogdanovic 6’6 / 205 --> Bogdan is your perfect #6 / #7 man, he can do all, he can drive, he can pass, he can defend and he can score, he will get good minutes from the bench and spot start to provide Middleton or LaVine with some rest.

Arnoldas Kulboka 6’10 / 211  The young Lithuanian player continues to impress to the Grizzlies Staff, he will have some minutes to demonstrate if he can be in the bottom part of the rotation, or if he needs to continue playing in the developmental league. He has a good shoot from midrange and deep, but he needs to earn more confidence.

Power Forwards
Projected Starter
Draymond Green 6’7 / 210 --> Green is powerful as hell an excellent defender and rebounder who excels from 3, it’s quite difficult to use him in this engine, but the scoring opportunities that he has is able to get the best of them, he is an excellent asset to have in defense in the low post.

Backups
Bojan Bogdanovic 6’8 / 224 --> Bojan is a projected as a backup scorer from inside of the paint or middle range shots, he can distribute the ball and handle it effectively, he just put some weight to be a little bit more competitive in the paint. It’s going to be a make or break season for him, with his team option in 2 seasons, he really needs to step up his game.

Justin Harper 6’10 / 225  Harper is just interested in one thing in life, and is score points, well at least try to score points, he will probably go to the Developmental league to show us his full potential and he might get called up every now and then to see if he can be competitive against opposition back-ups.

Center
Projected Starter
Bismack Biyombo 6’9 / 233 --> Biyombo was just too good to let him go during the last FA, we used the bird options to extend him a contract that he just couldn’t refuse. Biyombo brings security around the rim in both sides of the field.

Backups
Tim Kempton 6’10 / 235 --> Kempton has been really good during the pre-season, and we are looking forward to see what he can bring to the table this season, he dominated around the rim last year in the developmental league, and despite his low defense will make him difficult to earn a starter role, he can be a consistent back-up.

Cody Zeller 7’0 / 240  Zeller is a solid contributor from the bench, who can swipe rebounds, defend and despite not being an asset in the offensive game, he can create some good numbers, we are expecting Kempton to step up and replace Zeller, who can hopefully be traded during the season.

Last in the division and it won't be close. Which is fine - you have your pick. Zero perimeter defense and adding weight to Larkin will probably make him a worse defender, because it worsens his height/weight ratio.

Interesting season for Memphis ahead..I have your 2nd but I wish the best for you ..I think with bojan you could use him at all three positions if you need to cover any short falls

You have some talent but I don’t think it’s enough to make the playoffs. I think you should keep developing your youth and please don’t move your draft pick.

I guess it will be a learning season. It would surprise me i this roster is able to make the playoffs with teams like Utah and SA closing in.
A lot will depend if LaVine can still score as he did last year and if Middleton can provide enough overall game.

Don't trade your 1st's ... they may be needed!

Yeah, this will likely be a rebuilding season for MEM, but the good news is that this is a perfect draft to land a lottery pick.

It may be a rebuilding team but you have a lot more top-end talent than most. Green, Middleton, LaVine and Biyombo are all solid players, and I'm looking forward to how you can get this team clicking.
