This is clearer than ever after the Pistons second game of the season against the Brooklyn Nets was over and a reporter asked starting Point Guard Terry Rozier how he felt this team would be able to perform in Kemba Walkers shadow.
Asked by the reporter to elaborate on the last statement, Terry was quoted as saying:We've been hearing it all off-season by the media around the league about how we took a step back. You all saw the playoffs last year, it was a damn joke. When I came over, I told the GM that I'm bringing this city multiple championships. Kemba slept walked through the first round last year and the whole team felt it. This is the Terry and Jamal show now and we aren't taking prisoners. Kemba is a b*t*h!
January 8th refers to the first time the Pistons play Kemba Walker and the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road in what will inevitably be a matchup worth watching as both players square off against each other. You heard my ass. Dude is done. I was told when I was a rookie about how I'm a Kemba clone, but I'm gonne show the league this year that I'm the far superior player. Coach told me this is my team and that he only agreed to come on because of me. Everybody better circle January 8th on their schedules - next question!
Coach Chauncey Billups provided a more politically-correct assessment of the situation:
An anonymous inside source to the organization said that GM emplep7 heard about the comments about Kemba from Terry Rozier and had this detail to provide:We all know its early in the season and there is a ton of work to do. The GM approached me to take over after last season because of the reputation and history I have built up in Detroit from my playing days here. They know I want to bring a ring back to the Palace and I hope I can live up to that expectation. As for Terry, he's a hell of a young player in this league and he plays with similar grit to how I used to play and I respect that. I'm real excited to see how this team gels over the course of the season, but its still too early to mention anything about a championship. We have a loooong way to go.
While the 2-0 start in encouraging, its not all good news in Detroit as the star SG Jamal Murray was diagnosed with a bruised calf after the first game and will be out most of the month as a result. We won't get a full picture of how this team will play together until they prove they can be healthy for an extended period of time. One thing is certain about this seasons team, it will be completely different from anything we have seen in Detroit in a long time and we might get a repeat of the Rumble in the Palace from 2004 if Coach Billups can't reel in these young players.Everybody knows it has been real bad around here ever since [emplep] decided to trade Kemba. He was his favorite person in the world and it hit him real hard after he finally realized he included the wrong players name to the league office when he submitted the final trade agreement. The rumors are true that he went on a 14 day peyote trip in the days following. Two employees haven't been seen in the offices since that and we've been told by the legal team that they never existed. When he heard this quote, he broke down in tears. He was said to be wearing his Kemba Walker robe that he had custom made after the championship. Its weird here, but we're all scared for our lives.
