San Antonio– With CSL Free Agency hours away, Spurs Insiders have been notified that Spurs Front Office is already in Boston ready to begin pitching priced free guard Ben McLemore to come to San Antonio. No one from the front office was available to comment directly to the San Antonio Express Next, but it is believed they already have a 4-year max contract ready to present to McLemore. Along with the max contract, the Spurs plan on pitching the idea of being the City’s Superstar and the vocal point of the team’s offense. An insider was quote saying
McLemore has the opportunity to take the next step in his career in San Antonio. He can go from being one of multiple pieces on a good team to the Leader of an up and coming team. I can see him becoming a 20+ point a game player with the right pieces around him.
League insiders believe it is a long short McLemore will leave Boston especially for a floundering franchise like San Antonio. Though the same insiders also believe McLemore has a lot more to prove in the CSL.
Additional San Antonio rumors are the team has already reached out to stalwart defenders DeMarre Carroll and Avery Bradly to pair with the Spurs current backcourt of Gary Harris and Frank Ntilikina. One thing the league knows is the Spurs will be one of the more active teams in the Free Agency with $28MM in cap space to use to build around the current young building blocks the team have. The team currently has 7 players on the roster including new Spurs Demtrius Jackson, who is slotting to back up Ntilikina, and sharp shooter Davis Bertans, who might have an opportunity to start at small forward.
Additional names tied to San Antonio are former Spurs Walter Tavares and Jrue Holiday, but Insiders believe interest in both players have dropped over the past couple of weeks. The trade that brought back Jahlil Okafor to San Antonio might have shut the door for Tavares’s return, but the team might still engage in discussions knowing Washington could second guess offering him a max that San Antonio could put in front of Spurs Fan Favorite Tavares.
