Yeah, but it's freaking hilarious, and like Manu said, the two guides together give an excellent overview to new GMs of what to expect

The cool thing about Tim's article is that you liked seeing your name attached to a description, as it was an article that really focused on the positive attributes and made people feel good about themselves. Not sure it would have been as well received here.

Re-posting this as a reminder to myself, as to not waste time trying to get deals done anymore.

Got some new ones I should add too.

Yeah, it's a shame man. Some guys are cool with just being good. Hardly any risk takers because who knows what will happen if things don't work out and they have to readjust. At least they'll still have that prospect who will light the world on fire with their 5th starter ceiling.

I need to step away. It's just a simple league. . ./deep breathe.

trading is easy if you follow these rules

1) Aim High - Settle Low
2) Actually send offers/counter-offers
3) If you dont get a counter offer, give up/move on.

There is not a lot of negotiation in this league... it’s ussually you fight for someone to make the first offer then the receiving party either agrees or gets offended and leaves the deal. Bc of this I have tended to lean to this model now inst as trying to maximize the offer for both parties.

just tough when you do those things and you're dealing with a moving target or someone who can't make their own decision.

it's no coincidence the deals I get done are often ones nobody else knows about until they're posted.

and man, Bill, I'd love to be a part of those. my 'negotiations' drag on for days/weeks and after the other party starts backing off of offers they've actually made, nothing gets done.

Backing off offers will get you more deals in the long run. If you never back off offers teams will always try to squeeze more out of you. If you back off offers once in awhile teams will know if they try to squeeze out more or think about it too long they could lose the offer.

I don’t mind the long negotiations as long as they are long bc the back and forth going is forwards a deal. Those are actually more fun... also I get annoyed when a “negotiation” is more the other team selling me on a player. Negotiations and sales are not the same thing.

Agree on the excessive sell part. The mental gymnastics some people go through to try to convince you it’s a good deal for ya

My deals never seem to happen quickly. My Paul George trade was over a weeks worth of talks. But I always no my line on a deal and I wont cross it and will walk away and usually 75% of the time the other team will get back to me within a week or two and agree to my terms. But I understand how a lot aren't that patient.

There are a couple though that aim so high in deals it's not only ridiculous but insulting. But some tend to think if they start crazy high and if you meet in the middle it will still be a win for them.

Bingo.

Always aim high in trades. It's like selling a car. You negotiate high then usually meet a little above what you planned on getting for it anyway. In some cases it doesn't work like that for me, but sometimes it does.
