App: https://lucas-munson.shinyapps.io/CSLScoutingApp/

Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEa9-TA5QMM

Welcome to the CSL Scout Buddy! The app where by uploading the raw csv from the CSLO, you can analyze all your draft prospects, set up your draft board, compare players, and hunt for gems. Here's how it works:

Upload CSV

Image

Upload a downloaded scouting CSV directly from the CSLO site. Note: To ensure that the code works do not edit the CSV in advance. The app only analyzes draft prospects for the 2030 class.

You can also choose to upload an identical csv with scouting data from articles. Make sure to exactly replicate the CSLO csv, including have 1 row per scout.

App computes the ranges for current and potential attributes based on the current scouting system:

CSLO scouts: +/-2 for shooting, +/-5 for current skills, +/- 15 for potential skills
Article scouts: +/-4 for shooting, +/-8 for current skills, +/- 12 for potential skills

Draft board New feature

Image

The draft board will automatically update when you upload a scout csv above. Heads up, it may take up to 30 seconds for the draft board to appear due to the amount of backend calculations + my tiny local server.

On the draft board page, you can:

1. Select a prospect to view their ratings.
2. Rearrange prospects by clicking and dragging.
3. Save your current draft order + download all data by selecting 'csv'.
4. Upload a previously saved draft order by selecting the 'browse' button.

My suggestion: Especially the first time, it might be faster to create a custom draft board order in a csv file outside of the app. Just make sure the prospects are in one column titled "Name" (don't worry about any other columns -- the app is only reading the "Name" column to get the prospect list). Upload this csv using the 'browse' button to reorder the draft board. Then you can repeat the workflow of:

-rearrange prospects,
-download the csv before you exit the app
-reupload the same csv next time you open the app to pick up where you left off.

^Let me know if that makes sense. Feel free to reach out if you're confused.

Gem finder

Image

The Gem Finder tab provides a way to compare all prospects along two categories. Select two categories at the top of the screen and develop a big picture overview of your scouts.

Comparisons

Image

The comparison tool allows users to compare any two prospects. For now, ignore the error that will come up when you first load this tab. Select two scouted prospects and the feature will work. Make sure to select prospects that you have in fact scouted.

Let me know if you run into any problems. Happy Scouting!

Thanks!

Update: Just made a new feature called "Gem Finder" that allows for comparison of all prospects at once on two selected variables.

Updated with two new features: A Player Profile page and a Gem Finder.

The Player Page tab is a quick way to learn about a prospect. It provides the user with two "lollipop" plots: one for current ranges and one for potential ranges. Eventually I hope to add graphics for Ball Actions and Floor Ranges.

The Gem Finder tab provides a way to compare all prospects along two categories. Select two categories at the top of the screen and develop a big picture overview of your scouts.

Didn’t get a chance to download it yet, will do it on Monday, this is fantastic Lucas! The only thing I think is not correct are deviations, based on your first post.. You posted deviations from the two reports Kyrus sent for scoutings, but cslo deviations are +-2 shooting, +-10 current, +-15 potentials. Maybe it’s right in the scouting tool already, just pointing out so if it’s not, you can correct it!!

Once again this will be extremely helpful! Thank you so much!

Awesome stuff!

And yes Marcos is correct, the deviations you get in CSLO are different from the scouting articles. that was done so that we wouldn't get articles like "Michael Porter = Terrence Jones" again

Strong, I love stuff like that. Always searching for people building stuff like that for the company I work for. We are searching heavily for analysts with coding skills. If ever interested in a job in europe let me know

Besides German, I'm also Italian. I think your company needs someone with fresh ideas.

This is awesome. Really well done and I’ll definitely be using this. For now, I’ll be using this to supplement my own spreadsheets I create because of some personal preferences I like when looking at the prospects (for example: I like to color code ratings), but this adds a LOT of really cool features that I’m looking forward to using. I especially love the part that calculates the ranges based off the scouts. It’s simple, but it saves time and eliminates any potential math mistakes.

One potential improvement I see at the moment (and it’s quite minor) is figuring out a way to incorporate the scouts we get from Kyrus to write the articles, but since the deviations are slightly different, there’s not a simple fix.
