Just a thought why can't we introduce a cut and sign aspect to the league.
In the case of rondo his contract was too stupid for a playoff team to match salaries. If Orlando could have cut and signed him somewhere they may have gotten a young piece or something back for a guy they don't want to keep.

If we're going with true realism, players cut this late in the NBA season aren't even eligible to be on a playoff roster. Another thing to think about.
