New Hard Cap Policy

**Note: This is not the official language that will be used in the CBA. We will make sure the official language closes any loopholes we find by then. Consider this a spirit of the law post.**

There will no longer be any way to go over the HC and stay over.

Any and all moves made must leave a team under the $90,000,000 hard cap, minus $473,604 per each roster spot under 12. For example, a team cannot make a move that leaves them at $89,700,000 with 11 rostered players, as signing a minimum salary player would put them over the hard cap.

If a move is processed that violates this rule (aka Simmer error), the move will be reversed and all players acquired by the offending team cannot be acquired for another 30 in-game days (same as a player being trade restricted). The first time we have to reverse a move it will come with a warning, every time after that will incur a first round draft pick penalty. If there are no first round picks to penalize, then the penalty will be at the admin's discretion.

Teams currently over the hard cap will have until the first day of the regular season to get under the hard cap. Any teams that fail to do so in time will have their best player suspended for 60 days in game or until that team gets under the hard cap, whichever comes last. If the offending team trades their best player during that suspension period, the suspension will be transferred to the next best player on the offending team. The suspension will not be traded with the player.

Hard Cap with less than 12 players
11 players - $89,526,396
10 players - $89,052,792
9 players - $88,579,188
8 players - $88,105,584
7 players - $87,631,980
6 players - $87,158,376
5 players - $86,684,772
4 players - $86,211,168

Clarification question: Will this include free agency cap holds that put a team over $90 million?

No, only guaranteed salaries.

Makes sense for the Brett rule question what about if a team has a injury and needs to sign a player for the rotation but it would put them over the hard cap?

If you have 12 players and are that close to the HC, that’s a risk you are willing to take. The game doesn’t care if all 12 players on your active roster are healthy or not, so if you can’t get a 13th player without going over the HC then I guess you’ll just have to have a player injured on your active roster.

I like that the rule shifts responsibility on to GMs. No more ''Simmer processed it so now it's valid'' nonsense

It's the rule I have been advocating for since the horrendous previous rule was put into place.

Finally a "logical" rule, and one that I mentioned several times in the chat and behind scenes. Glad to see it finally implemented.

What about teams who get like 5 or 6 injuries like what happened to Toronto and other teams? Could this be grandfathered in somehow for one season to allow some teams to adjust finances. I think the end of FA forces some teams who have been attempting to obey into some bad deals because one team blatantly flouted the rule.

I think there is no rule that plans against that whether we grandfathered it in or not. We want to implement this right away so that we don't have the grey period lasting an entire season. Having until the start of the season to shed a few million to allow everyone to have a full 15 man roster to account for some injuries should give everyone enough time to adjust.

Definitely like it.

It's also will push more financial moves similar to how an NBA team tries to avoid luxury tax.

Great. Just great.
I’m sorry for allowing such a gap in the rules but you guys fixed it nice and simple.
