Changes for Player Instructions (2030-2031 Season)

Post by Flaming Homer »

We decided to change the amount and value of the instructions for the upcoming season.
The catch & shoot limit will be raised to 30.

Also you will be able to change max +/- 20 points for floor range and +/- 4 points for ball action per instruction. The amount of instructions will be decreased from 20 to 12.

We hope that makes it easier to change a certain player more quickly, a good example would be a player you trade for and want to give a different role.

Fine tuning of players will be a bit more "expensive", a instructions is just more valuable if you have only 12 available.

Can't say I'm the biggest fan of this change but then again, I'm an advocate against changing players too quickly and always have been. This just promotes that even more and now you can unrealistically completely change a player within a month or two or less.

That being said, I guess if it lessens the simmers load then so bet it.

Yea I see what bt is saying, but then again changing someone's floor actions should be kinda easy to do as a coach. Players can be taught to stop hanging out in the corner very quickly in real life too.

I like the reduced number of instructions. Less work for everyone and forces us to be strategic in our choices

and I loooove the raised catch and shoot cap for my boy Corey Kispert

Yeah very true about floor ranges. Probably more related to ball actions I guess.

Will we be able to split up the floor range and ball action changes? For example : -2 D&S, -2 D&S / +4 Post Up : -10 Corner, -10 ATB / +10 Post?

Thanks for clarifying!

Sorry, I didn't read it right!

You can add/substract smaller values but not split them over more actions.

Also -3 D/S, + 3 Post will work.
But not + 2 Post & +1 D/K

good change overall, but i wish it came with more instructions. Its hard to trade knowing you wont have enough instructions to fix a player. Im out of instructions for the yr so im locked out from trading for anyone that needs instructions.

I like the change - way easier for the simmer. If the league wants to slow it down, we can change the instructions per Friday from 3 down to 2 - I prefer to keep it at 3 but there are options to not radically change a player in a week
Congrats to season 16 ASL champion SoulKey. For the Swarm!

I appreciate the thought that I'm sure went into the change. Definitely a pro if it makes the simmer's life easier on Fridays. In theory, you could get more instructions out of the new rules compared to the old rules. In reality though, it's near impossible to avoid wasting instructions on "fine tuning", so the end result is going to be fewer instructions for everyone. For example, if you have a Corner 3 specialist that's currently in the Corner 30% of the time, you're essentially using double the instructions to get that player to the 40 Corner max (compared to the old rules). Likewise, if you have a slasher that's at 11 D&S and want to get him to the 13 D&S max. Or if you want to split up the instructions (i.e. +4 C&S, -2 D&S, -2 D&P), you're again wasting instructions.

The new rules are great for making quicker changes, but it basically forces everyone to waste instructions at the same time. Selfishly, I wish it came with a couple more instructions to compensate, but I like the idea/thought behind it.

I think 15 instructions would've been the good compromise to benefit everyone
